Being a Car Salesman Can Be A Good Job

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

What about selling cars for a good living? Selling cars for a living can be a rewarding career. If you have not considered selling cars for a living you might want to think again. There are numerous sales people making a nice income being a car salesman. I have known many that make good money selling cars.

A car salesman career is not for everyone, but then no job is. There are many people that get a college degree and not making 100K a year. I’m not against a college education, but going to college is not for everyone just as being a car salesman isn’t. If college is not in the cards for you a car salesman career might be just the ticket.

There is a period to adjust to a new job or business and the car business is no different. You need to learn the car business and techniques to be a top car salesman. It may be a short period of adjustment before you start earning the big money. When you start selling cars for a car dealership they typically provide some basic car salesman training to get you started in the right direction.

Selling cars for a living requires you to work over 40 hours a week, but at least you can earn 100K. Most people don’t mind working a few extra hours weekly in order to earn the income of a good car sales person. The car salesman knows nothing of hard work unless you think driving a car is hard work. The car salesman gets to wear nice clothes and they won’t get dirty from a hard day at work.

The daily life of a car salesman includes taking customers on test drives, negotiating and building rapport. There may be times when you will prep a car for delivery or advise a car buyer on what they should do. Not unlike most jobs there are parts of the job you might not enjoy like calling for referrals or getting stuck in the rain. Difficult is not the word I would use to describe selling cars for a living.

There is a downside to having a career in car sales. The pay of a car salesman is not fixed every week. The job of a car salesman is paid commission on their sales, so weekly pay might vary, but overall the monthly pay is consistent for a good sales person. Holidays can be a big day for selling cars and many sales people consider that a negative. When you think about it making a 100K a year selling cars is very attractive when you don’t have a college degree. So, when you are pounding the pavement looking for a job, selling cars to make a living is something you should consider.
